VillaKey certified as autism-friendly travel platform

VillaKey, a vacation rental platform in Miami, FL, has recently received the label as a Certified Autism Center designation, becoming the first company in the vacation rental sector to achieve this. This achievement was given to VillaKey by the third-part International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), putting the company among hospitality industry leaders in autism-friendly travel.

VillaKey’s commitment to understand and accommodate families living with autism was inspired during co-owner Alice Horn’s own childhood. Her father was on the spectrum, and because of this, had trouble with the typical budget family vacation: kids and parents all crowding loudly into one hotel room.

“Family vacations were challenging,” she remembers. There was noise and stimulation outside and in the congested accommodations.

Decades later, when curating a portfolio of professionally managed villas, condominiums, and vacation homes, Horn still had an awareness of why quieter, more spacious lodgings with less stimulation might appeal to certain families. It goes against the amusement park and cruise ship theory of hyper-stimulated vacationing – but it turned out to be exactly what many families needed. The customer reviews began to trickle in:
