Property Portal Watch caught up with REA Group’s Innovation & Strategy Manager, Scott Holmes, who not too long ago celebrated his 20-year anniversary with the Australian property portal giant.
Simon Baker, Property Portal Watch Chairman and the former CEO and MD of the REA Group sat down with Holmes for a one-on-one ‘fireside chat’ during the Property Portal Watch Bangkok 2018 Conference and discussed the biggest changes which Holmes has witnessed in the Australian online property realm, and what he expects the future of the industry to be like in the coming years.
Among the changes which Holmes listed during the interview, the improved speed of the internet was highlighted, as it has allowed bigger images to be used in listings on property portals, as well as an increase in the number of listings being published per page. Holmes also addressed the importance of the smartphone’s role, “[the] mobile has had a big influence; now we are getting the majority of our traffic through mobiles. The desktop has decreased but mobile has picked up a log.”
