In the last few days, news reports all over the world focused on hurricane Sandy, which unfortunately hit the north east coast of the United States. with a vicious force, causing for over 2 million people to lose power in their homes, and rising fatalities.
The follow-up storm is not helping the already heavily battered coastline, causing for widespread closures of roads making it extremely difficult to move around and get to stores, gas stations, schools or anywhere else. Many individuals have been left homeless, due to flood damages which their homes have experienced.
While emergency services and relief organizations are assisting those affected by the storm, some good Samaritans in the real estate realm have taken matters into their own hands, and are helping in their own way.
Austin-based HomeAway, Inc. has organized a directory of holiday homes available for rent for short and long-term stays, many at reduced rates or free of charge, to those in need of housing due to the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy.
HomeAway® customers with properties located on the eastern seaboard listed on U.S. vacation rental sites HomeAway.com®, VRBO.com℠ and VacationRentals.com℠ as well as innkeepers on BedandBreakfast.com® have volunteered to offer their rentals to evacuees.
Owners and property managers may also utilize the HomeAway Community™ site to connect with each other to discuss the latest news on the storm and share advice and resources.
“We greatly appreciate the overwhelming compassion of our customers who are helping to provide the stability of a comfortable home during such a difficult time,” says Brian Sharples, HomeAway co-founder and chief executive officer.
