TechCrunch.com reported that, HouseFix, a startup which was inaugurated at last year’s TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, with aspirations of becoming the Carfax for the housing market, has closed shop and pulled down its website.
HouseFix was unable to “attract a large enough user base to complete [its] vision” and has decided to pursue other directions, states the parting message posted on its homepage.
The startup’s goal was to provide social recommendations to the home-repair industry and give homeowners a directory of contractors and repair professionals accompanied by reviews and profiles, while the contractors would benefit from a web presence and the online tools which HouseFix provided them to better track their projects.
Due to pre-existing established competitors such as: ServiceMagic and Angie’s List, offering similar services on their sites, the startup had a tough journey ahead of it.
While HouseFix did not offer anything completely original to its consumers, the feature which earned it the “Carfax of home repair,” enabled users to view home-repair histories when searching for properties, allowing them to get a sense of whether or not a home they were interested in purchasing was worth the price it was assigned.
According to experts, this particular feature could have brought much-needed transparency to the home-buying process, alas it did not last.
