If I asked you which country in Africa had the highest number of internet users what would you say? Egypt “Land of the pyramids” and revolt maybe South Africa but you would be wrong on both counts. Would you believe it’s Nigeria?

With over 45 Million internet users, Nigeria has more than twice the number of Egypt’s 21.6 Million internet users and well over the 6.8 Million internet users in South Africa, by the way, South Africa is not the number two in Africa. Morocco is number two with 15.6 million, Kenya number three with 10.5 million, and finally South Africa comes in at number four.

Growth in Africa’s Internet and Broadband sector has accelerated in recent years due to improvements in infrastructure, the arrival of wireless access technologies and lower tariffs. Broadband is rapidly replacing dial-up as the preferred access method. This process is already virtually completed in Africa’s more developed markets. And with only 29% of the 155 million current Nigerians using the internet the prospects for further growth are very good.

Nigeria, it’s not just for lottery winners who need some upfront money anymore.
