The UAE’s propertyfinder.ae has teamed up with Volunteer in Dubai for a special Ramadan project which aims to give free meals to approximately 4000 labour camp workers.
The ‘Meals for Workers’ project, had hit a sponsorship crisis earlier this month, but it was set back on track in time for the start of the holy month, thanks in part to propertyfinder.ae.
Each week, 1000 iftar meals will be handed out to labourers in different camps by around 50 volunteers from propertyfinder.ae and Volunteers in Dubai.
Funding for the project has been collected through substantial cash donations from various UAE real estate companies registered with propertyfinder.ae. Plus, catering company City Chef has offered its facilities and services to supply the meals.
“We are extremely grateful to propertyfinder.ae for coming to our aid with this project and basically saving the day. We had committed to feeding 11,686 labourers during Ramadan, but certain sponsors pulled out and we were up against it. But now, thanks to them finding funds for 4000 meals – 34% of the total committed amount – the project should be a great success,” said Lola Lopez, Founder of Volunteer in Dubai.
Renan Bourdeau, managing director at propertyfinder.ae commented: “We wanted to do something that was true to the spirit of Ramadan and since we work at the heart of the real estate industry we are aware, perhaps more than most, just how much we all owe to the labourers who built this amazing city from the ground up.”
“Thanks to the wonderful generosity of our real estate brokers and the ongoing efforts of Volunteer in Dubai, we are able to extend the hand of friendship in a unique way through the ‘Meals for Workers’ project.”
