Homeguru.com.my and fullhouse.com.my in Malaysia have rebranded themselves as propertyguru.com.my. This rebranding aligns these two sites with their owner, the Singapore based propertyguru.com.sg. As part of the rebranding effort, RM5m (US$1.6m) will be spent on promoting propertyguru.com.my in Malaysia.

“With the rebranding to PropertyGuru in Malaysia, we are consolidating our resources to ensure we deliver maximum value and leverage on our strength in Singapore to grow regionally,” said Steve Melhuish, Group CEO of PropertyGuru Group.

However, as seen in the Interim Management Results from the iProperty Group, there is a long way to go in Malaysia for propertyguru.com.my to close the gap with the market leading iproperty.com.my.

Recently Property Portal Watch found that iproperty.com.my in Malaysia is the third most dominant portal in the world in terms of the number of visits when compared to the next nearest site.  In February iproperty.com.my had 5.4x as many visits as homeguru.com.my.  Therefore the bringing together of homeguru.com.my and fullhouse.com.my makes sense in a bid to close the gap with the market leader.

When looking at the statistics for Malaysian sites in April, we see that iProperty.com.my is significantly larger than the number 2 player, homeguru.com.my.  iProperty.com.my accounts for 2/3 rds of all visits to the top 6 sites and on a page impression basis, iProperty.com.my is even more dominant capturing over 70% of the page impressions.

If we group the iProperty Group sites (iproperty.com.my and thinkproperty.com.my) together and then compare to the new propertyguru.com.my branded sites (fullhouse.com.my and homeguru.com.my), the picture stays the same with the iProperty Group capturing 70% of the visits and 75% of the page impressions while the Property Guru Group attracting just 14% of the vistas and 12% of the page impression.
