San Francisco-based Airbnb, an online community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world, in more than 19,000 cities and 192 countries, has just announced it has signed a 10 year lease on a 170,000 square foot office space at 888 Brannan Street. The new location is a nearly fivefold expansion over their last digs in Potrero Hill, which they moved into just last year.

Airbnb.com, though still very much in its infancy (established in 2008), it has become the leader among sites which are aimed at people who wish to rent their apartments or rooms to travelers. The company has offices in San Francisco, London, Paris, Barcelona, Sao Paulo, copenhagen, Moscow, Hamburg, Berlin and Milan. It currently employs 125 people at its home office, but the new location will make it possible to employ another 675.

“This is a commitment not only to staying in San Francisco, but creating a lot of jobs,” stated Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, in a recent interview. “We see San Francisco as our long-term home.”

“It is great news that Airbnb will continue to create jobs in San Francisco as they open their new office,” said David Chiu, President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. “I look forward to working with them and other stakeholders to consider public policies that address shareable housing in our City.”

Airbnb’s plans are to move into the new offices at 888 Brannan in February of 2013.
