In the midst of the Greek economic crisis, George Stroumboulis, an entrepreneur from Toronto launched a property portal, GreekPropertyExchange.com (GPE), focusing on the Greek property market, bringing together buyers, sellers and renters, claiming “we have created the cleanest, easiest and most centralised website to meet your Greek Real Estate needs.”

The company has also started a reality-style TV program ‘Hellenic Home Hunting™’ which is aimed at foreign investors who are looking to buy property in Greece.

GPE’s success has caught the attention of Canada’s Ambassador to Greece, Robert Peck, who hosted a reception in honour of Stroumboulis, distinguished guests and members of the press.

Strouboulis stated that Greece has been a popular destination with people from around the world, even if they had no ethnic ties to the country; this great interest in the Hellenic peninsula is the reason why GreekPropertyExchange.com was established.

“Now owning property in Greece is an attainable dream, prices are coming down in a lot of markets,” said Stroumboulis. The Ambassador’s perspective is that “Canadians love Greece and they want to help out.”

GreekPropertyExchange.com claims to have nearly 1,500 members, a list of 7,000 properties, receives 15,000 visitors per month from approximately 120 countries and has had more than 2.7 million views.

Stromboulis emphasised that, “It’s not just your typical Greek-Canadian/Australian/American buyer who is looking at the Greek market; a lot of Russians now are looking and people are waiting to see what’s going on with the country.”
