In the highly competitive world of real estate, time is of the essence. Agents list properties online and hope for the greatest exposure, and of course for the quickest possible sale, especially in the slow market we are experiencing nowadays.
Redfin just released Instant Updates, the first service for virtually immediately alerting potential home buyers about a new property listing and price drops. Within 15 to 30 minutes after an agent posts a property for sale, Redfin users searching for listings in that area will get an email alert. Most other real estate sites send updates to their users on a daily basis, and though one day may not seem too long to wait for an alert, sometimes it can mean losing out on the opportunity to find the ideal home.
Redfin claims that, over 17% of the homes which debuted and sold on their site since the beginning of 2012, went under contract within three days of their posting. The company felt that giving their customers an extra day to get into the home and decide about an offer is a crucial competitive advantage.
To get instant updates, just click Email me new listings in the results box that appears on the left whenever Redfin presents search results in a map:

If you’re already getting daily listing updates, you can switch over to Instant Updates by opening the menu under your name at the top right of every page on Redfin.com. From there, just choose My Alerts & Emails:

Then scroll about halfway down the page, and change all your alerts from Daily to Instant:

And then new listings will start coming fast and furious:

You can always unsubscribe once you find a home.
The one request Redfin didn’t address: a link that opens the listing in their iPhone and iPad apps, rather than in a web browser. They promise that’s coming later this month.

I think realestate.com.au have had this option for a while. Any saved search can be set to be delivered “Immediately”.
