comScore figures have findaproperty.com second in the UK market, while Nielsen puts zoopla.co.uk at number two, but a new Hitwise ranking shows that both are still far behind rightmove.co.uk.

This ranking – provided by rightmove.co.uk – show the top 10 UK websites in terms of page impressions during April this year, placing rightmove.co.uk at number nine:

1. Facebook
2. Google UK
3. eBay UK
4. YouTube
5. Yahoo! Mail
6. Amazon UK
7. MSN UK
8. BBC News
9. rightmove.co.uk
10. Yahoo! UK & Ireland

According to rightmove.co.uk, zoopla.co.uk is in 121st place in terms of this ranking, followed by findaproperty at number 136 and primelocation.com at number 211.

rightmove.co.uk released this same Hitwise ranking 12 months ago, when it was in 10th place. The portal says its current market share among the top four property websites stands at 82 percent of web pages viewed.

i feel this is rather disingenious of Rightmove to focus on ‘page impressions’ as opposed to visitors which firmly puts Findaproperty.com at No2 and has done for some time. sites are structured diffferently and until such time as there is homogenuity between them, in my view page impressions remains a weak performance indicator and that this would be known to marketing managers who compile press releases

does anyone else agree that property portals are in the business of generating relevant audiences & leads?

I fully agree with Thomas in that property portals are all about relevance and leads. There is no point having millions of users generating billions of impressions if they aren’t converting.

Zoopla has been the fastest growing property portal in the last couple of years and continues to grow. It recently acquired houseprice.co.uk for around £3m and i believe will be the only real competitor for Rightmove. However, it is very clear that currently Rightmove is head and shoulders above the competition.

I have just cancelled my account with Rightmove. They are very expensive and I don’t like their ethos – secretive pricing and a strategy designed to screw as much money out of people as they can get away with. Irrespective of what hitwise stats say, over the last 4 months I have received no revenue from Rightmove and I get 33% more leads from Findaproperty. The Rightmove sales rep keeps reminding me ‘we are No.1, we are No 1!’ well you might be but you are not as good as Findaproperty in terms of lead generation and I have the stats to prove it.
