Irish market leader daft.ie is now covering more mobile bases with the release of its application for Android, which it says is the first app of its kind from an Irish property portal.
daft.ie released its iPhone offering in January 2010 and followed up with an iPad app that August. The portal says it has seen “colossal growth” in traffic from smartphones – primarily iPhone and Android devices – over the past 18 months.
Along with standard functions such as a GPS-based search and the ability to contact agents, the app also offers Google Street View imagery and Google’s turn-by-turn navigation.
Other property portals that have released Android apps over the past few months include UK portal zoopla.co.uk and realtor.com in the US. According to new research by comScore, Android is the second most popular smartphone platform in the US, having grown its market share by 7.3 percent in the three months to December 2010.
