UK print and online publisher Trinity Mirror has just announced that it has taken full control of fish4.co.uk – a classifieds portal that covers real estate, jobs, cars, holidays, and personals.
fish4.co.uk was first established in 1999 by Trinity Mirror along with Newsquest Media Group, Northcliffe, Regional Independent Media, Bristol United Press and GMG Regional Media. More recently, Trinity Mirror held a 50 percent joint venture interest in the business alongside Newsquest.
A Trinity Mirror spokesperson told mediaweek.co.uk that the fee paid to Newsquest for their fish4.co.uk stake was “nominal.” Trinity Mirror says fish4.co.uk will now sit alongside the brands in their digital classified portfolio including GAAPweb, totallylegal, SecsInTheCity and smartnewhomes.com.
According to David Black, Trinity Mirror’s group director of digital publishing, the acquisition of fish4.co.uk is partially aimed at strengthening Trinity Mirror’s position in the online recruitment space, as the website currently attracts over 3.3 million job seekers each month.
“fish4.co.uk is an excellent addition to our digital portfolio,” Black states. “The acquisition demonstrates continued progress with our strategy of building a growing digital business of scale, and increasing our share of the online recruitment market.”
paidcontent.org adds that the personals side of the fish4.co.uk business has been outsourced to WhiteLabelDating.
