zoopla.co.uk has acquired property technology company Byteplay Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
BytePlay’s products include map-based property search engine ononemap.com and US property search engine dothomes.com, both of which are now being redirected to zoopla.co.uk.
The UK version of BytePlay’s DotHomes search engine, dothomes.co.uk, was sold to The Digital Property Group in January this year. TDPG also acquired BytePlay’s extate.com website as part of that deal.
However, zoopla.co.uk’s statement says it now owns extate.com, and both extate.com and dothomes.co.uk are currently being redirected to zoopla.co.uk. zoopla.co.uk has been contacted for comment on this aspect of the deal.
zoopla.co.uk’s acquisition of BytePlay also includes the Gazette Network – a collection of over 1,000 property websites for various UK locations. BytePlay was highlighting traffic increases to these local websites in April this year.
zoopla.co.uk says agents will gain more exposure and receive more leads via these local property sites as a result of the acquisition.
“zoopla.co.uk now owns directly and powers an impressive range of local and national websites, offering estate agents unrivalled exposure across the Internet,” the portal states.
zoopla.co.uk’s statement adds that it is mounting “a serious challenge” to UK market leader rightmove.co.uk, citing its recent deals with Countrywide, LSL Property Services plc and Connells Group.
