trulia.com Moves Up Hitwise Rankings

US real estate search engine trulia.com has managed to move up the July Hitwise rankings of US real estate websites, replacing eBay’s rent.com at number four.

This puts trulia.com behind zillow.com, which is in third place. In terms of market share, trulia.com has 2.96 percent, while zillow.com has 3.94 percent.

realtor.com is still at the top of the list with a 5.72 percent share of the market, followed by realestate.yahoo.com with 4.45 percent. realestate.yahoo.com struck a deal to have zillow.com supply its listings and sell advertising in early July.

The top 10 real estate websites for July, and their previous positions, were:

Every website between 11th and 20th place changed position, with loopnet.com making it into the list after two months of gains. The commercial real estate portal went from 25th to 23rd place in May, and 23rd to 21st place in June.

The top five most popular real estate search terms for the month were “realtor.com,” “zillow,” “apartments for rent,” “remax,” and “real estate.”

Websites joining the top 100 list included mycheapapartments.com, which jumped from 190th to 96th position. This website, launched in September 2009, was also a fast mover on the April Hitwise list.

29.64 percent of all visits to the “Business and Finance – Real Estate” industry went to the top 10 websites for the month. 40.34 percent went to the top 20 websites and 70.12 percent went to the top 100 websites.

The average visit duration for visits was 9 minutes, 42 seconds, which is a minimal increase from last month’s average visit duration of 9 minutes, 30 seconds.
