New York is attracting quite a bit of attention from real estate website creators lately, with recent releases from condodomain.com and residentialnyc.com to name a few. In the background, nakedapartments.com has been gradually gathering listings for its “reverse search” service.

nakedapartments.com says it aims to make renting an apartment in New York fair and easy. Users register their needs in an anonymous profile, then brokers and landlords send through listings that match these criteria. The first 10 contacts are free, after which nakedapartments.com charges brokers and landlords US$2 per contact.

Renters are able to review brokers and landlords on the website with star ratings and comments. After searching through nakedapartments.com’s listings, they can also choose to send the broker or landlord an anonymous request for more information.

nakedapartments.com was soft launched in September last year, and has just been featured in mashable.com’s Spark of Genius series. The website is currently listing over 15,000 apartments, just over 6,000 of which are no-fee listings.

“[W]e aren’t trying to build a site that cuts the broker out,” nakedapartments.com emphasises. “We think that good brokers should be fairly paid for what they do. nakedapartments.com is for renters and brokers, making life better for both.”
